Pisay Wars: a successful campaign for Charm and the rest of the Yellow Team

by Brian Caparas

The Sports Development Council, Student Alliance, and the P.E. Department organized the intramurals, called the Pisay Wars, for school year 1997-1998. There were 8 participating houses with their respective colors. Each house was composed of four sections: one section for each year level. Charm, Lithium, Ilang-Ilang, and Topaz composed the Yellow Team.

Girls Soccer

The Yellow soccer team was victorious in their first two games, defeating Orange and Violet teams. After their twin victory, the championship confrontation against the Green Team was set.
The game was tightly fought. Both squads proved that they deserved to be in the championship. Thanks to the heroics of Honeylet Bescara of Charm, the Yellow Team got the upper hand, 1-0. The Green Team tried to stage a rally but because of the tight defense of their opponents and due to lack of time, they were not able to even-up the score.

Boy Soccer

After earning two impressive wins against the Orange Team, 3-0, and the Black Team, 1-0, the Yellow Team bowed to the Green Team in the championship, thus finishing second in the boys division.
The Yellow and the Green Team were evenly matched before an unexpected goal by the latter pushed them to the lead. The game ended at 1-0, in favor of the Green Team.

Boys Basketball

When the game’s on the line for the Yellow Team, where would you go to? Of course, Allen Ayusa take-over. Mr Killer Smile proved that he is not charming, but the leader of his team as he led the Yellow squad past the Red Team.
Due to their size advantage, the Red Team dominated the first 2 quarters. The first quarter ended at 15-8, and the second quarter, 20-18, in favor of the Red Team.
Ayusa entered the game at the start of the third quarter and almost single-handedly rallied the Yellow Team. The Yellow Team took the lead after the quarter, 32-30. With the help of the other members of the squad, the margin widened and route to a 50-38 victory. The Yellow Team enters the semis and was supposed to face the Black Team.

Girls Basketball

The Yellow Girls Basketball Team also won their elimination match against the Violet Team. Due to rains and bad weather, the other games were postponed.

Boys and Girls Volleyball

Both Volleyball teams of Yellow bowed to their respective opponents and they were eventually eliminated.

Charm’s Intrams Team Win Soccer Division

In a recent heavyweight title-bout intramurals soccer division, the charm class, along with the rest of the yellow team ( I-Topaz, II- Ilang2, III-Lithium), won the Runner-up Position (Boys Soccer), and Champions (Girls Soccer). In the girls soccer team, leading among the pack were Charm’s ever illustrious Kartini Reyes, Honeylet Bescara, and Vina Vargas. Emerging triumphant over other heavily-favored teams, they won with style, pride and grace. In the boys soccer team, however, they only managed to get the runner-up position. In the first two games, the yellow team defeated the orange and black teams with great ease, even with the black teams’ array of Labuyo varsity players. In the Finals however, the yellow team was unfortunately defeated by one lucky goal of a very lucky green team player. Dismayed, but not losing hope, the yellow team played with the same intensity as ever before, with a squadron of shots that never seemed to get into the goal. The yellow team held on with a losing score of 0-1.
